Charged with attracting and retaining filming for Greater Los Angeles, FilmL.A. offers a mix of financial and in-kind support to film festivals and other industry events that support the L.A. film community. The first quarter of 2015 has brought with it many partnership opportunities.
In early January, FilmL.A. sent a small delegation to the 2015 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The 2015 trip marked FilmL.A.’s fourth year at Sundance Film Festival. This year, FilmL.A. partnered with the Sundance Institute to organize an invitation-only Producer’s Brunch. Attended by more than 150 film producers, executives and members of the entertainment trade media, the brunch offered a unique chance to network and celebrate the benefits of filming in California. It also served as an occasion to honor California-made films at the festival; which numbered 10 in 2015.
In February, FilmL.A. partnered with the Pan African Film & Arts Festival. This year marked FilmL.A.’s second year of participation. FilmL.A. staffers used this opportunity to converse with filmmakers about the advantages of working in Greater Los Angeles, including services provided by FilmL.A. and access to a new state Film & Television Tax Credit Program administered by the California Film Commission.
Also in February, FilmL.A. partnered with the Level Ground Film & Art Festival in Pasadena, the Made in Hollywood Awards in Hollywood, and the Producers Guild of America to sponsor an invitation-only Academy Awards Viewing Party for PGA members.
In March FilmL.A. participated in several screenings and events associated with Paleyfest LA. This year Paleyfest hosted a farewell event for the recently wrapped series Glee. Staffers had the opportunity to meet Glee show runners and cast members and thank producers for filming locally over the show’s six seasons.
