Each year, to reduce the impacts of construction, events, and filming during the holiday season on shoppers and retail businesses, multiple jurisdictions served by FilmLA, including the City of Los Angeles, implement temporary restrictions on production activity in commercial districts.
CITY OF LOS ANGELES HOLIDAY MORATORIUM
Lane closures, street closures, and street parking will be prohibited in commercial/retail areas of the City of Los Angeles during the following dates:
- November 27 – December 1
- December 6-8
- December 13-29
- January 1, 2025
In some cases, these holiday restrictions may be waived for short-term work such as a service connection, a public safety emergency, or an activity that city officials otherwise deem a necessity.
Individual filming requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Any requested activity must meet a standard of minimal impact that satisfies ordinary approvers and additional city contacts.
If you have any questions or need more information on the specific areas or jurisdictions affected, please reach out to our Solution Services team at info@filmla.com or 213-977-8600.
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO HOLIDAY MORATORIUM
The City of San Fernando does not allow any filming related activity in the Downtown area (bounded by: Brand Bl., San Fernando Mission Bl., Truman St., and Pico St.) from Thanksgiving Day through Christmas Day.
CITY OF SANTA MONICA HOLIDAY MORATORIUM
In an effort to reduce the impact of filming in predominantly retail areas during the holidays, The City of Santa Monica does not allow filming in the following commercial areas between Thanksgiving Day and January 2nd:
- Downtown Santa Monica (bounded by Wilshire Bl., Lincoln Bl., 10 Fwy., & Ocean Ave.)
- Main St., Pico Bl. – Marine St./City Limit
- Montana Av., 6th Court – 17th St.
- Pico Bl., Pacific Ocean – Centinela Av./City Limit
The City of Santa Monica may grant a waiver for filming requests with minimal cast/crew, no significant impact to the public right of way, and no requested street parking. Please allow additional time (beyond the standard 5 business days) for waiver approval from the city. Productions are welcome to contact our Solutions Services Team at info@filmla.com or 213-977-8600 to discuss in more detail.
HOLIDAY DEADLINES AND HOURS OF OPERATION
At this time of year, the observance of holiday hours of operation can also affect permit application deadlines and permit turnaround times.
FilmLA is currently working with all of our partner jurisdictions to confirm their holiday schedules for December and the beginning of January. We will share this information by Production Alert when available.
You can now find current holiday permit deadlines on our website here.
