FilmLA, the nonprofit partner film office serving the City and County of Los Angeles and other local jurisdictions, is pleased to announce the appointment of Denise Gutches as its new Chief Executive Officer. This leadership transition marks an exciting new chapter as FilmLA continues its mission to support and facilitate filming across the region.
After 17 years of dedicated leadership, FilmLA President Paul Audley will retire from the organization at the end of December 2025.
Denise Gutches, who has served as FilmLA’s Chief Financial and Operating Officer since 2011, will assume the CEO role effective January 1, 2026. Denise brings extensive experience in strategic planning, operations, and risk management, and has been a driving force behind key initiatives such as the launch of FilmLA’s online permit system, MyFilmLA.
“I am honored to lead FilmLA into its next phase,” said Denise Gutches. “With the revitalization of the Film and Television Tax Credit and numerous transformative initiatives underway across Los Angeles, FilmLA is uniquely positioned to support the creative and economic vitality of the region’s film and television industry. I look forward to working with our partners to build a resilient and innovative future.”
Paul Audley reflected, “FilmLA has consistently demonstrated its ability to adapt and thrive in a changing environment. I am confident that Denise and the leadership team will continue to advance FilmLA’s mission with the same dedication and excellence that has defined our work.”
Supporting Denise’s leadership, Donna Washington will expand her focus on regional film policy alignment and enhanced client service as FilmLA’s VP of External Affairs. Philip Sokoloski will continue in his role as VP, Integrated Communications overseeing media relations, marketing, and industry research.
“The Board of Directors and FilmLA’s current executive team have together invested great care and effort to evaluate and prepare for this planned transition,” said FilmLA Board Chair Melissa Harman. “We are confident that FilmLA’s executive team, led by our new CEO Denise Gutches, has the experience and expertise to meet the evolving needs of LA’s film production ecosystem.”
“The FilmLA Board of Directors extends its deepest gratitude to Paul for his steadfast commitment and thoughtful guidance, which have been instrumental in shaping FilmLA’s growth and its vital role within the entertainment industry,” said FilmLA Board labor representative Ed Duffy (Teamsters Local 399).
FilmLA Board studio representative Kristin Larson (Sony Pictures Entertainment) added, “FilmLA provides a crucial service to the local film industry. I have great confidence in our leadership team and their dedication to FilmLA’s mission.”
FilmLA is committed to providing outstanding service to filmmakers, residents, and government partners, ensuring Los Angeles continues to be the premier destination for production.
