About

MyFilmLA

FilmLA invests heavily in mission-supportive technology. Today, every step of the film permit process, from application intake, to government approval and permit release, is handled within our state-of-the-art permitting system, MyFilmLA.

MyFilmLA was introduced in the fall of 2021. Since then, we’ve applied the system’s built-in GIS capabilities to anticipate and reduce the impact on filming on area communities.

Two years later, FilmLA introduced a major update to MyFilmLA, making school filming licenses available within the system and streamlining filmmaker access to school locations.

Sign-up for a MyFilmLA account today, and experience a system designed from the ground up to make it easier than ever to get a film permit.

FilmLA is the best permitting system out of all of the ones I know.

System Features

MyFilmLA is a unique, comprehensive, online system for applying, approving and releasing film permits. Some of the features of this technology include:

Fast Permit Release

FilmLA permits allow up to five locations per application. With MyFilmLA’s streamlined workflow, each Location Authorization (LA) is released as soon as it’s approved by our government partners. Once all requirements for an LA are met, it can be processed and distributed individually, serving as a legally valid film permit for that location.

GIS Location Intelligence

MyFilmLA’s GIS technology improves access to information for FilmLA’s Solution Services, Permit Operations, and Community Relations teams. This feature enables FilmLA staff to provide better customer service and counsel to film industry customers. It also allows filming locations, basecamp locations, and crew parking locations to be mapped for better conflict avoidance.

Automated Invoice Generation

Customers have the ability to view and download invoices that have been paid or are pending payment through a dedicated payment portal. Any payment, including your FilmLA Permit Application Fee due up front and estimated fees assessed later, can be processed and applied to your account in real time.

Easy Document Uploads

MyFilmLA allows applicants to upload and attach required documents to current and future applications, meaning fewer emails to send and keep track of. Insurance paperwork, barricade plans, Community Filming Survey forms — attach these and more to your permit application for safekeeping and quick review.
