This year, Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR) held its 26th Annual Los Angeles River Clean-Up.  In keeping with last year’s theme, organizers divided the river into three sections and hosted three separate clean-up days. FilmL.A. participated in the clean-up for its fourth straight year, using it as an opportunity to give back to the local communities where filming happens.

This year, groups and individuals were able to participate with LA River Clean-Up efforts at the Valley, Glendale Narrows or Lower River sites on April 11, April 18 and April 25, respectively.  Team FilmL.A. landed at the Glendale Narrows Riverwalk area.  Participants were greeted by FoLAR staff and given a safety talk prior to joining in the festivities.

The Glendale Narrows Riverwalk underwent a large renovation at the end of 2014.  Part of the construction project including adding a linear park along the LA River and under part of the 5 freeway.  The park is a popular area for strolling, nature walks and horseback riding.

Some interesting treasure is pulled from the river each year during clean-up season, and 2015 proved no different. This year clean up attendees recovered a comforter, shopping cart and a mattress from the river.

Since its inception 26 years ago, the Friends of the Los Angeles River have worked tirelessly to restore the L.A. River to a swimmable, fishable, boatable and bikeable riverway to be enjoyed by human and animal residents alike.

FilmL.A. is proud to have participated in ‘La Gran Limpieza’ for the last 4 years!  We thank FoLAR and all of the volunteers who join us on the river year after year! To register for a future clean-up date or to learn about other LA River activities and events, visit www.folar.org
