Production Alert FilmLA

Beginning in July, a City-supported project led by the Skid Row Cooling Resources (SRCR) Group will begin operating temporary, fully staffed cooling center locations in Downtown Los Angeles, as a service to unhoused residents and others during the hottest summer months of the year.

As a part of the project, five Cooling Canopies will be set up in the Downtown area, to operate for approximately two months at pre-determined locations. Each location will provide shade, sunscreen, water mist, drinking water, ice, cold snacks and other refreshments, to help curb the effects of hyperthermia.

Recognizing that this effort is essential during the hot summer months, FilmLA has analyzed the planned Cooling Canopy locations and determined that there is a very low likelihood of conflict with potential filming in most Downtown areas. Only one Cooling Canopy location, on Main Street, between 5th and 6th Street, falls within an area historically popular with filmmakers.

FilmLA representatives are in close contact with SRCR Group organizers, and together we have determined that filming in the vicinity of Cooling Canopy locations is fully possible this summer, as long as pedestrian access to cooling center services is maintained at all times.

If you have any questions about cooling center locations or filming Downtown in general, our Solution Services team stands ready to assist at 213.977.8600 and info@filmla.com.
