Twenty-two Academy Award Nominations go to L.A. Based Films!

In January, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 2017 Academy Awards. Los Angeles based projects received 22 total nominations!

Leading in Oscar nominations was La La Land with a record 14 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director -Damien Chazelle, and Best Original Screenplay. The nominations for Best Lead Actor and Actress went to Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone respectively.  Other categories included, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Original Score.  There were also two nominations received for Best Original Song for “Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” and “City of Stars.”

Michael Shannon received the Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role as Bobby Andes in Nocturnal Animals. Meanwhile, Hail Caesar! received the Oscar nomination for Best Production Design and The Jungle Book and Doctor Strange received nominations for Best Visual Effects.

On the animation side, Moana received two nominations including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “How Far I’ll Go.”  Zootopia also received the Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature and Trolls received the nomination for Best Original Song.

It promises to be a winning year for L.A. area projects and talent this awards season. Our congratulations go out to all nominees!
