Immediately following the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), a proprietary department of the City of Los Angeles, restricted filming at LADWP properties to ensure there was no threat to the public’s health.
Since that initial halt to filming, security protocols have been put in place, and individual LADWP properties have reopened one at a time to filming. Most LADWP properties are now available resources for filming, though the notion that they are closed still lingers in the minds of some filmmakers.
The John Ferraro Building, LADWP’s Headquarters, is open for filming. Located at 111 N. Hope Street, the iconic building recently hosted a major feature film called Inception but has been a popular location for films, television shows and commercials since it was built in the 1960s. Its uniqueness is aided by the outdoor pools, fountains and solar panels over parking spaces.
