As a part of FilmL.A.’s outreach and education efforts, last month our Community Outreach Liaisons assisted with a pair of events to thank local communities for welcoming on-location filming in their neighborhoods.
First, FilmL.A. staff attended the Cheviot Hills Annual Block Party on July 4. Community Outreach Liaison Arturo Pina staffed a table and answered questions about FilmL.A. and filming in the nearby area.
“Cheviot Hills has historically been popular for filming and continues to be so. By participating in community organized events, we can come back to our neighborhoods and say ‘thank you’ to neighbors for their patience,” said Pina.
FilmL.A. realizes the inconvenience impact that neighborhoods can experience when hosting on-location filming. “As a token of our gratitude we gave away water bottles, t-shirts, mobile phone screen cleaners — items that folks can really use,” Pina continued.
FilmL.A.’s community outreach staffers also joined with The Studio City Neighborhood Council, the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department, Comcast, NBC Universal, CBS Studio Center and Councilmember Paul Krekorian to host a “Free Summer Movies in the Park”’ outdoor film series. The series kicked off on July 12 with the screening of Despicable Me 2. The series will feature three movie nights from July until August.
FilmL.A.’s participation in the series was organized by Community Outreach Liaison Guy Langman. “The ‘Summer Movies’ series is a wonderful opportunity for FilmL.A. to join with some awesome community partners and thank Studio City neighbors for their film-friendliness,” Langman said. FilmL.A. provided free popcorn for all attendees. NBCUniversal sent costumed “Minion” characters to take photos with residents and Councilmember Paul Krekorian’s office provided use of an outdoor screen.
“We want community members to know that FilmL.A. is there for them at all times. We look forward to assisting with more events like these, and welcome community input about our outreach and our services,” Langman added.
