FilmL.A. President Paul Audley and Hollywood Sign Trust Chairman Chris Baumgart discuss filming logistics at the Hollywood Sign.Filming on-location requires the involvement and approvals of numerous government departments, agencies and private entities.  Our job at FilmL.A. is to streamline the permitting process by ensuring good communication between these parties and clear protocols for filming where jurisdictions overlap.

A great example of overlapping jurisdictions is the area around the Hollywood Sign in Griffith Park.  The famous landmark sign sits on City of Los Angeles property.  The City’s Recreation and Parks Department Rangers patrol the park area around the sign, the sign’s many security cameras are monitored by the City’s General Services Department Police, the Los Angeles Police Department enforces trespassing laws, the Hollywood Sign Trust maintains the structure and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce licenses use of the sign’s image for commercial purposes.

This sounds like a maze of phone calls to make and doors to knock on.  But don’t despair, FilmL.A. simplifies the process.  As your one-stop shop, we will obtain required approvals and ensure good communication among all parties.

So whether you’re filming on what’s known as the “Millennium Plateau” or your shot requires you to rappel down to the “H” in Hollywood, we’ll make sure your permitting process is smooth and easy.
