In February, FilmL.A staffers traveled to San Pedro to meet with film professionals and members of the area’s business community.  All were gathered to attend the San Pedro Historic Waterfront Business Improvement District (PBID)‘s Location Manager Trolley Tour, for an introduction to various area locations available for filming.

PBID is a property-based business improvement district.  Staffed and funded by area business owners, PBID is responsible for maintaining and improving areas within its boundaries.  PBID maintains these communities by providing services including hiring public safety ambassadors, performing street,  sidewalk and alley cleaning, removing graffiti, trimming trees and installing new lighting.

Trolley Tour participants included PBID representatives, City officials, location professionals and FilmL.A. staff.  All along the Tour, the guide highlighted “film friendly” businesses and outlined improvements made in certain areas to make San Pedro more film-friendly.

Several stops were made along the route, giving location professionals an opportunity to enter locations of interest, take photographs and speak with building managers.  Popular stops were the Topaz at the San Pedro Waterfront, Warner Grand Theatre, the Grand Annex, San Pedro Harbor, San Pedro Downtown Harbor, the San Pedro Fish Market, the Los Angeles Maritime Museum and the San Pedro Jail.

PBID was assisted in its Trolley Tour initiative by FilmL.A.’s Community Outreach Liaison, Guy LangmanDonna Washington, FilmL.A.’s Vice President of Operations, remarked, “We are excited about PBID‘s interest in partnering with FilmL.A. and the industry and for wanting to make San Pedro more film friendly.  San Pedro was popular with filmmakers in the past, and to have it back means that the City can offer more diverse locations to the industry.”
