FilmLA is pleased to announce the launch of a new partnership with the City of San Fernando, establishing FilmLA as the centralized coordinator of film permits and related services in the City.
Effective June 1, 2022, filmmakers with an interest in filming in San Fernando will be able to do so through FilmLA’s one-stop permitting solution. Meanwhile, San Fernando residents will benefit from FilmLA’s comprehensive community relations program, which includes bilingual neighborhood notification ahead of filming events and access to FilmLA’s 24/7 community support hotline.
The launch of the partnership will also mark the return of filming to the City of San Fernando, which has been hampered since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Situated in the northeast corner of the valley that shares its name, the City of San Fernando packs considerable Hollywood draw into its 2.37 square miles. The City’s many alleys, churches, schools, and older commercial districts regularly set the stage for national television programs including Bosch, the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation series, Sons of Anarchy, The Mayans M.C., and Jay Leno’s Garage, among many other projects.
The City of San Fernando has its own police department, and contracts with the City of Los Angeles for fire protection services. Film permits, coordinated through FilmLA, are released after approval by the City Manager’s Office.
When asked about this new partnership, San Fernando City Manager Nick Kimball expressed his enthusiasm with the following statement, “San Fernando has a charming historic small town feel, rich cultural roots, and unique architectural features that make it an ideal backdrop for filming. The City looks forward to working with FilmLA to enhance the City’s profile as a filming destination.”
“We are thrilled about our upcoming partnership with San Fernando and excited to promote all that the San Fernando has to offer. San Fernando’s openness, film-friendly policies, historic business district, beautiful parks, and central location make it an ideal place for your next film. San Fernando will join 14 cities, the City and County of Los Angeles served by FilmLA.”
Donna Washington, Vice President of Operations, FilmLA
To enhance the City’s attractiveness as a destination for filmmaking, FilmLA and city officials thoroughly reviewed the City’s filming policies, adjusting them for a better fit with FilmLA’s other clients and the California Film Commission’s Model Film Ordinance. A high-level breakdown of the rules for filming in San Fernando will be available soon on the FilmLA website.
