Holiday Moratorium: Reducing the Impact of Filming in Commercial Zones

Production Alert FilmLA

Each year, to reduce the impacts of construction, events, and filming during the holiday season on shoppers and retail businesses, multiple jurisdictions served by FilmLA including the City of Los Angeles implement temporary restrictions on production activity in commercial districts.

For example, lane closures, street closures, and street parking will be prohibited in commercial/retail areas of the City of Los Angeles during the following dates:

  • November 22 – December 31

In some cases, these holiday restrictions may be waived for short-term work such as a service connection, a public safety emergency, or an activity that city officials otherwise deem a necessity.

Individual filming requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Any requested activity must meet a standard of minimal impact that satisfies ordinary approvers and additional city contacts.

With the added impact caused by the recent 10 Freeway fire and the indefinite closure of the freeway, we anticipate that city officials will evaluate all requests with additional care to ensure that production does not significantly impact area merchants or the flow of commuter traffic through Downtown Los Angeles.

At this time of year, the observance of holiday hours of operation can also affect permit application deadlines and permit turnaround times. FilmLA will share this information by Production Alert when available.

Meanwhile, if you have any questions or need more information on the specific areas affected, please reach out to our Solution Services team at info@filmla.com or 213-977-8600.

We look forward to facilitating your film production in Greater Los Angeles!
